| 15 Aug, 2009Mr. President Says ‘Thank You South Africans’ President Jacob Zuma is touring around the country Thanking all South Africans and ANC loyal supporters for voting for the ruling party in the past national elections. On Saturday the 15th August, the president came up-close and personal with various groups during the Bloemfontein leg of his tour. The Siyabonga -Thank you campaign started when the president gave a brief speech at Bloemfontein City Hall before moving over to Clive Solomon Stadium in Heidedal where he addressed the crowds. It was not surprising to see the Free State residents showing up in great numbers. The crowd was very enthusiastic and vibrant- chanting and dancing as they welcomed the President. During his speech, President Zuma elaborated on daunting challenges facing the country such as economy-which is in recession, education, rural development and particularly on non-performing and incompetent government officials that were hampering service delivery. President Zuma said ‘If civil servants are not ready to serve the nation they should resign, and non performing officials will be removed with immediate effect’. He guaranteed the nation that in September 2009 there will be a hotline number “Call the President” where citizens can lodge complaints directly with his office if they are not assisted by any of the government departments. In conclusion, it appears that most South Africans now have greater confidence in the new president after noting progress he has made during his first 100 Days in office. |
