Residents Overview

MANGAUNG offers its residents a quality of life with which few other cities are able to compete.”

MANGAUNG’s open expanses reflect the warmth of the people – friendly and quietly dignified. Rural tranquility and vibrant city dynamics embrace all cultures, new ideas and rapidly changing technology.

Harmony with nature is possible, even in the city. An unexpected game reserve in the inner city, beautiful rose and botanical gardens, suburban parks, a zoo, and world-class sports facilities form part of the diversity on offer. Its impressive architectural and historical heritage, the annual MACUFE arts festival and Volksblad Kunstefees have established MANGAUNG as an important cultural centre.

MANGAUNG offers visitors and abundance of accommodation ranging from star-rated establishments to intimate guesthouses, while theatres, restaurants, pubs, jazz clubs and shopping complexes provide relaxation to suit all tastes.

Crime levels are low and the city has everything a metropolis can offer, in addition to personal service, hospitality and warmth often lacking in larger centres.

First-class educational institutions include a university, a technikon, several colleges and among the best schools in the country. Top class medical care is available, and the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Free State is a pioneer in medical research.

All the major financial institutions have regional offices in the area and development support institutions such as the Free State Development Corporation and Business Partners are also represented.

MANGAUNG has a well-developed infrastructure, with telecommunication and transport networks linking to every major centre in the country. From MANGAUNG no destination is too far or inaccessible. MANGAUNG is served by two airports, a landing strip and occupies a central position in the national rail network. It is located a mere 480km from Johannesburg and 1 100km from Cape Town.
