Information Services

The Information Services sub-directorate briefly seeks to give effect to the provisions of the Promotion of Access to Information Act (Act no 2 of 2003) commonly known as PAIA.

The Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (PAIA) is the piece of legislation giving effect to the rights of individuals (in terms of section 32 of the Constitution), access to information held by the State (including the Municipality), and any information held by private bodies that is required for the exercise and protection of any rights.

The objective of the Information Service Directorate therefore is to assist the Municipality to comply with the provisions of the said Act and thus contribute towards the adherence of a transparent and accountable institution as dictated by the Constitution of the Country, by

• Receiving and responding to requests to access Council records in terms of the Act;


• Compiling and submitting section 14 manuals to the Human Rights Commission;


• Compiling and submitting section 15 notices to the Minister of Justice,


• Compiling and submitting section 32 reports to the Human Rights Commission


• Dealing with telephonic and personal enquiries relating to the Act
