Surveillance of Premises

The Municipal Health Services Division perform routine inspections, special inspections and monitoring on residential and business premises to identify health risks and implement preventative and remedial actions, which includes environmental health related complaints from the public, regarding the following:


  • Environmental health impact assessments.

  • Assessment of indoor air quality, ventilation, lighting, thermal quality, floor
    space and moisture.

  • Assessment of overcrowding, dirty or unsatisfactory conditions on any premises.

  • Prevention and abatement of any condition on any premises which is likely to
    constitute a danger to health.

  • Monitoring all buildings and all other temporary or permanent physical structures for residential, public or institutional use.

  • Ensuring compliance with principles of Agenda 21, the Healthy Cities approach to integrated service rendering and the practical minimizing of any detrimental environmental health risk.

  • Ensuring that urban-and rural land use planning and practices are conducive to sustainable development.

  • Assessment of building plans, commenting on zoning, demolition application.
