Buying Procedure

  • Registration

Register as a buyer, using the prescribed forms and paying the minimal fee as may be prescribed from time to time.

  • Buyer’s card

On payment of the necessary registration fee, a buyer is issued a debit card which is pin protected. Unless the pin is disclosed to any other person, the card can only be used by the registered card holder.

  • Loading money on the card

Once issued with a card, the buyer deposits cash into the card (see methods of payments), and can purchase from any agent on the market.

  • Buying on credit

Unless the buyer has a bank guarantee, no credit sales are affected in favour of any buyer.

Method of Refilling the Buyer’s Card

With the increased cash handling risk(s) for all market participants, the MANGAUNG Fresh Produce Market has made available the following methods of refilling the buyer’s card:

  • Electronic funds transfer (including ATM’s, telephone and cell phone banking)

This method is considered to be efficient and has the least risk(s) for the market participants. Buyers should take into account the time delays between the transferee bank and the receiving bank, where these are different.

  • Cash deposit at the bank

Depositing cash at the bank in favour of the MANGAUNG Fresh Produce Market is also considered to reduce the risk of market participants. The market’s bank account is updated immediately and the buyer can continue purchasing produce at the market. Buyers must keep in mind that cash withdrawal and cash deposit fees are charged.

  • Cash deposits at the teller on site

This method allows the buyer to purchase immediately. The method is, however, considered to embody most risks for market participants, including robbery, and cash embezzlement.

Selling Procedure

Because commission agents trade on behalf of the producers (farmers), there are no restrictions on who sells, buys and at what price this takes place.
