Notice: Mangaung Ready for Action Packed Weekend

PUBLIC NOTICE  –  MEDIA ADVISORY – MANGAUNG READY FOR ACTION PACKED WEEKEND

The city of Mangaung is ready to host revellers for the 20th installment of Macufe. The festival has become eagerly anticipated, not only by Free State music and culture lovers, but followers throughout the continent.

Other than being the biggest gathering that celebrates music, arts and culture, Macufe also contributes towards the city’s tourism revenue as well as local economic development. Through the SMME sub-directorate, Mangaung Metro has put in action the Macufe 2017 Informal Trading Plan, which sought to ensure that local small businesses have a piece of the Macufe pie in this event attracting thousands of ‘out-of towners’.

After a call for applications to trade at the various Macufe events, the unit received a sizeable amount of applications from small businesses in all our regions. Eligible participants started trading on the first day of the festival, from selling food to exhibitions.

The provincial joint operation centre (Prov JOC) consisting of all security agencies is sitting daily. This includes Mangaung Metro’s Disaster Management Committee. These structures have started rolling out their plans, and these services will be rendered until the last day of Macufe activities.

As the city we have augmented our resources in anticipation of high volume of people who will be flooding the city for Macufe festivities and other sporting events like cricket (Proteas vs Bangladesh Test) and rugby (Cheetahs vs Blue Bulls; Cheetahs vs Glasgow Warriors).

The programme concludes tomorrow, resuming from 10H00 to allow zoo-keepers time to feed animals and clean cages. Entrance fees are R17 per child and R32 per adult.

The Zoo will be closed on Saturday 07 October due to the closure of the roads in the area. It will return to normal operating hours on Sunday.
